Youth Ministry
We are fortunate to have an active youth group that focuses on mission opportunities.
Heavenfest 2010: 70+ Bands on 7 stages on 300 plus acres. The youth will be rocking out listening to Christian bands at Heavenfest in Longmont, CO.
World Changers - Our youth traveled to Duncan, Oklahoma to paint houses, repair roofs and repairing damaged homes for the North American Mission Board. What an amazing opportunity! While the heat and humidity were high - so was the opportunity to help people who really needed it. Our youth - along with many other volunteers - finished 19 projects. There were 64 presentations of the gospel in the Duncan community.

Considering the objective of what their name, World Changers, entails; it seems they are starting out small. They are determined to change the world and they are doing just that by changing the lives of everyone in their path. From homeowner to passerby, everyone in Duncan has personally seen or heard what hundreds of determined youth can accomplish. They are literally changing the world of everyone they are around. None, however, are more appreciative of the diligent efforts of the teenagers than the homeowners reaping the benefits of the determined youth.
Barbara Cathey is one of the homeowners benefiting from the hard work of the youth involved with World Changers. Cathey and her husband purchased a home on North Eighth Street in Duncan with plans to renovate and upgrade. Those plans were jeopardized when Cathey’s husband passed away. Cathey was left with a broken heart and a roof in serious need of repair. Faced with a task far beyond her abilities, Cathey applied for help from World Changers.
To her surprise, she was chosen to be a recipient of the much needed and appreciated assistance. “There is no way I could have done this myself,” Cathey said. The crew “Goofus Roofers,” made their way to the Cathey residence and began changing her world.
“If it wasn’t for these wonderful people the roof would have fallen on my head,” Cathey said while holding back her emotions. “I just thank God so much for all of them, they have been so nice and courteous.”
Even more surprising to Cathey than the hard work of the scores of teenagers working on her roof is their work ethic. “They are not complaining at all,” Cathey said.
Facing off with a scorching sun and temperatures nearing 100 degrees, the teenagers released a loud celebratory shout because a cloud was blocking the heat from the sun. The moment was short lived as the cloud continued on its path. The volunteers didn’t let the short lived shade distract them however, they continued their work.
“It really touches my heart, it makes me want to cry,” Cathey said. “They really are a God send, I thank God for them. They are my little angels.”
Lillie Mae Johnson was another recipient of the free labor provided by World Changers. Johnson has owned her home on South Third Street in Duncan for almost 40 years. During that time Johnson said she has had work done on her roof “maybe once.” Two crews, “Toe Nailers” and “Dandy Sanders” worked on her roof.
“I’m enjoying these kids, I like talking to them,” Johnson said. “It’s amazing to see the kids work as hard as they are.”
Johnson said the crews arrived Tuesday morning and wasted no time in getting to work. “They were tearing the old shingles off and putting new ones on,” she said.
Johnson said it was a tremendous blessing to be selected for World Changers 2010. She said it really began to sink in when a dumpster was dropped off at her home.
“I was sure surprised because I have never had anything like this before,” Johnson said. “This is just such a great thing that God has done. I tell these kids that I will never forget them.”
World Changers’ mission is an immense one, but feasible. Fueled by a sheer determination to affect everyone around them, they have tapped a limitless resource, charity. In doing so, they have changed the lives of countless people in Duncan alone. World Changers Duncan 2010, mission accomplished.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Our youth led the music during VBS this year. The younger children LOVED seeing the youth lead the music. They did an awesome job teaching them the songs and motions.
